Step #1: Get Pre-Approved Before you will be able to make an offer on the home you want, unless you are going to pay cash you absolutley must get Pre-Approved for a Home Mortgage Loan! Meet with a Home Mortgage Lender and apply for a loan! This step takes little time and is of tremendous value and importance. It will identify the price range for which you qualify. In addition to making your time productive and curb anxiety when looking for a home, this also respects the privacy of the Home Seller to ensure that only qualified buyers are entering the Seller's homes.
Getting Pre-Approved is accomplished by speaking with your personal mortgage loan consultant and establishing what monthly payments you will be comfortable with and the type of loan program that best fits your needs. Your lender will then provide you with a Pre-Approval letter also known as a Letter of Commitment. When you find your dream home and want to make an offer on the property, this Pre-approval letter is mandatory with a Purchase and Sale Contract offer. Most home sellers will not even accept a buyer's home purchase offer without a Letter of Commitment from your lender.

Credit Bureaus You are entitled to a free credit report from each of the bureaus once every 12 months. On each credit bureau site there is a link to request your free report, however you might have to look closely as it can be hard to find among all their advertisements of their fee-based products. You can also access your free credit report through the site AnnualCreditReport.com. Note that AnnualCreditReport.com is authorized to get you your free credit report once a year, without cost nor strings. There is another site similarly named which is prominently advertised on TV: Free Credit Report dot com. Obtaining your credit report from this site might cost you. To get your report you must enroll in one of their fee based products. You would be able to get your credit report 'free' during the trial period, but unless you cancel you will have enrolled in their credit monitoring service and will be charged, hardly 'free'. Equifax
